BATESVILLE - The Arkansas Natural Resources Commission will hold a public information meeting at 9:30 a.m. until noon Wednesday, Nov. 28, in Batesville to discuss the development of a voluntary, non-regulatory Watershed-Based Management Plan for the Middle White River. The meeting will be at the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville, Independence Hall Banquet Room, 2005 White Drive. This is the third of four meetings to gather public input and explain the process that will be followed in the development of the non-regulatory watershed-based management plan for the Middle White River and its tributaries.
At the meeting, the ANRC will:
- Summarize the results of the Calico Rock meeting;
- Present suggested management goals, the costs and benefits of implementing the suggested goals, and additional management practices that could be implemented in the highest ranked subwatersheds. These five subwatersheds are highlighted on the map (link below);
- Provide information on agencies, organizations, and educational institutions that offer technical and financial assistance to stakeholders interested in voluntarily implementing management practices; and
- Describe the next steps in the planning process.
The process should be complete by September 2019. The resulting plan will provide a framework for landowners, communities and organizations to voluntarily undertake water quality projects in the watershed and improve their ability to solicit and secure funding and assistance from various government and private sources.
