Scientific Collection Permits
Resources

Although the AGFC is known for its role in game management, there also is much focus on monitoring and protecting nongame species. Many state and federal laws protect some species, but the AGFC grants scientific collecting permits to qualified personnel of other state and federal agencies, biological consulting firms, educators, college students and other individuals on a case-by-case basis. Scientific collection permits apply to any research that involves capture of the animal, even if they are subsequently released.

Collection of species designated as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended, require a permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Permits for collection or handling of threatened or endangered species or those designated by AGFC as “Species of Special Concern” will be granted only if the need is well justified.
