Lake Dardanelle crappie worth more than a meal

RUSSELLVILLE - Crappie anglers on Lake Dardanelle may be able to win more than a fish dinner if they notice a special yellow tag behind the dorsal fin of fish they catch in the next few months. Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission have been busy netting and tagging several hundred crappie with special reward tags as part of a study on the crappie fishery this year.

LITTLE ROCK - As the modern gun youth deer hunt begins, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission would like to remind all hunters to take a moment to think about introducing a new hunter this year. In fact, we are asking hunters to “take the pledge,” so to speak, and become a mentor.  
 

CWD-positive deer found in Johnson County

CLARKSVILLE – Chronic wasting disease has been found in Johnson County. A hunter-harvested white-tailed deer harvested north of Clarksville recently tested positive for the disease, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
 

Public meetings to focus on dying bottomland hardwoods at Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA

BALD KNOB - Roughly 212 acres of hardwood trees on Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area have died within the last few months and another 800 acres are showing signs of severe stress. This area within the WMA’s south greentree reservoir is an important habitat component for wintering waterfowl and a popular area with duck hunters searching for flooded hardwood hunting in Arkansas.

Healthy Snack Stick Program Will Reach 12,000 Children

LITTLE ROCK – One of the new projects of Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry is bringing snack sticks of deer meat and pork to thousands of young students and several of the state’s schools. Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners learned about it last week and found it worthy enough to contribute grant money totaling $100,000 over the next four years to help the endeavor.
