AGFC planting bass and habitat on Arkansas River

DARDANELLE — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission fisheries staff and volunteers recently completed two improvements focused on largemouth bass populations in the Arkansas River: one centered on stocking fingerlings to supplement poor reproduction during high current years; the other adding native habitat to give bass more cover for shelter and feeding locations.

Rob Goshien forwarded to us a photo of his daughter's first fish, which she caught last week. She landed this 5.2-pound bass on a cricket "'all by herself," a proud papa reported. "She has a love for fishing, and we had been catching a lot of big bream on beds," Rob says.

 


 

AGFC’s Youth Summer Fish Camps Wrap Up at Dry Run Creek, Little Red River

LITTLE ROCK – The Fish Camp program run by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Education Division has seen big growth since starting in 2013, from a couple of free events based out of Little Rock to several camps held throughout the state in 2022, with more anticipated in coming years. This season’s schedule wraps up later this month with a three-day Fly-fishing Camp at Dry Run Creek off the Norfork Dam tailwater in north Arkansas and a three-day Fish Camp at JFK Park next to Greers Ferry Dam in Heber Springs, in north-central Arkansas.
