LITTLE ROCK — A hot, dry summer has left Arkansas lakes and rivers lower than usual for the arrival of fall, and the weather has brought water hazards closer to the surface. Recreational boaters and anglers need to be extra vigilant these days.

Collin Bryant of Memphis caught what he said was "the catch of a lifetime" last Thursday (Sept. 14) on the Spring River at Mammoth Spring, a 20-inch brown trout, his personal best. After this photo, he released it back to the Spring.

Russ Hannah caught this nice brown trout on a guppie pattern while fishing with Spring River guide Mark Crawford recently. The Spring River, though spring-fed, has been low like most of Arkansas's lakes and streams lately, but the fish are biting.
