AGFC and Arkansas Tech team up to track secretive sauger on Arkansas River

RUSSELLVILLE — Researchers at Arkansas Tech University are working with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to learn more about the habits of sauger swimming in the Arkansas River. And if you just had a curious look on your face after reading the word “sauger,” you’re probably not alone.

A live drawing will be held on KTHV’s regularly scheduled Outdoor Report and will be streamed live at www.thv11.com.

Tournament anglers tell all through ATIP

HOT SPRINGS — No group plays their cards as close to their vests as bass tournament anglers. They may be all smiles and wish you the best at the boat ramp, but you’d have better luck getting Coca-Cola’s secret formula than getting the details on how they’re catching their fish. Thanks to the Arkansas Tournament Information Program, you can at least know how each lake those anglers are visiting stacks up with others in the state.

 

#LouieStrong continues message of love and hope

LITTLE ROCK — Last week, first responders from across central Arkansas lined the streets as they waited to salute as an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission truck to pass by, but it was not the wildlife officer driving the truck they were focused on. Instead, they were standing tall and saluting the courage of the young man riding in the back of the truck, Louie Schneider. This would be the last ride in a vehicle the 9-year-old would make in his short, but impactful life.

 

Spring Aboard boating education campaign offers discount for online participants

LITTLE ROCK – It may not feel like boating season yet, but the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, along with boating safety advocates nationwide, is urging boaters to #KeepYourEdge by enrolling in a boating education course this spring. The AGFC is participating in the national Spring Aboard – Take A Boating Education Course campaign. The Spring Aboard campaign encourages boaters to get educated before the kick-off of the boating season, so they can make the most out of their time on the water.

Hill Farm Elementary three-peats as Arkansas archery state champs

HOT SPRINGS — Hill Farm Elementary of Bryant took top honors at the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program State Championship last weekend at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs. This is the third time in as many years that the Hoot Owls of Hill Farm accomplished the feat. The team turned in an impressive score of 3,086 out of a possible 3,600 to claim the win over second-place Charleston Elementary. Greene County Tech took third place in the elementary division.
