Arkansas alligator hunt permits drawn

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission conducted the annual alligator hunt permit draw last Friday, July 6, and 108 lucky hunters will be shining the water this September in search of one of Arkansas’s largest big game species.

LITTLE ROCK - Anyone can help the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission keep tabs on the state’s bear population, thanks to the social media site iNaturalist. AGFC biologists have set up a special online survey dedicated to learning more about where bears are expanding in the Natural State under the title “Arkansas Bear Survey.”
 

Two landowner quail workshops offered in July

LITTLE ROCK - Quail Forever, in partnership with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will be hosting two special workshops in eastern Arkansas this July to help landowners learn how they can create more quail habitat on their land and how to offset any costs associated with the work. The workshops will be in Hazen  and St. Charles on July 12th and 13th, respectively.

Lake Conway sees Florida bass boost

MAYFLOWER - Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir in Mayflower received a shot in the bass fishing arm last week, as biologists released more than 150,000 Florida-strain largemouth bass fingerlings into the lake via a special nursery pond on Camp Robinson Special Use Area. This was the tenth stocking of Florida-strain largemouths at Conway in as many years.

Lake Wilhelmina dam upgrades underway

MENA - Anglers who frequent Lake Wilhelmina in Polk County have seen a little less of the lake than usual this year. The lake has been 5 feet low throughout spring and summer, waiting for upgrades to water-control structures.
