New Hunting and Fishing License options being developed

A new, durable “hard card” will be available soon from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for hunters and anglers who wish to purchase the upgrade. This new license option and a solution to complaints over the standard paper big game tags were discussed in a special meeting of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission today. 

 

Mayflower firing range reopens Sept. 8

After extensive renovations and an expansion to the range house, the Dr. James E. Moore Jr. Camp Robinson Firing Range near Mayflower will reopen to the public, Sept. 8, and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is celebrating the reopening with a special treat for anyone who wants to shoot.

Help create the next generation of conservationists with the Beginners Hunt Club

Hunting is a way of life, for many it’s passed down from one generation to the next. But what if you don’t have anyone willing or able to be your mentor? The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is accepting applications from anyone wanting to learn more about hunting and the outdoors to participate in a special hands-on learning experience called the “Beginners Hunt Club.” 

AGFC joins Arkansas Wireless Information Network

Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the AGFC’s adoption of the Arkansas Wireless Information Network at last Wednesday’s Commission briefings at the H.C. “Red” Morris Training Center in Mayflower. The system will link up the AGFC’s radio room with other first-responders and public safety communications to be faster in response when their services are needed.

Commission sets 2018 fishing regulations

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission voted unanimously to approve the list of recommended fishing regulations for 2018. The following recommendations will become effective Jan. 1, 2018.

AGFC holding public meeting about CWD in Van Buren County

Although chronic wasting disease has not been found in Van Buren County, it’s close. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wants to give the public an opportunity to learn more about the disease at a public meeting in Clinton. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m., Sept. 19, at the Petit Jean Electric Cooperative Community Room at 270 Quality Drive.

Little Red River enjoys bonus brook trout

The Little Red River below Greers Ferry recently saw a few extra brook trout in August, thanks to a surplus of fish at the Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery..Hatchery staff released 860, 9-inch brook trout into the Greers Ferry Tailwater, which were left over after stockings were completed for the Bull Shoals and Norfork tailwaters.
