Lake Chicot receives new plumbing for fish

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Fisheries staff have spent the last three weeks chopping and fitting PVC pipes to improve Lake Chicot, but they aren’t concerned with how the water is flowing. The PVC is being used to create complex fish attractors to sink at strategic points in the lake to offer anglers places where fish are likely to congregate.

AGFC proposing to limit movement of wild-caught baitfish, public comment open

Biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Fisheries Division have proposed a regulation change to limit the movement of live, wild-caught baitfish within the state. The proposal is part of an effort to reduce the spread and introduction of nuisance species, such as silver carp (jumping carp), northern snakehead and zebra mussels to new bodies of water.

2017-18 Federal Duck Stamp unveiled for sale at Bass Pro Shops June 23

The first day of sale for the 2017-18 Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp, known as the Federal Duck Stamp to most Arkansas hunters, will be held June 23 at the Bass Pro Shops in Little Rock.

Datto Access on Black River to see increased parking, new name

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will hold a special dedication ceremony at the Datto Access on the Black River near Pocahontas at 2 p.m., June 13. The Commission recently accepted a donation of one-and-a-half acres bordering the access to increase parking and enable more hunters and anglers to enjoy Dave Donaldson Black River Wildlife Management Area. The donation came from Harold “Blue” Riggan of Corning.

 Regular readers of Arkansas Outdoors will notice a new name and look to this newsletter, which has provided updates about the AGFC's actions for decades. Arkansas Outdoors will now be delivered under the name Arkansas Wildlife Weekly to complement the AGFC’s award-winning magazine and television show.
