Arkansas hunters set alligator harvest record

LITTLE ROCK — The 2023 Arkansas Alligator Season drew to a close at sunrise Monday, and, when the smoke on the water cleared, hunters had tallied 202 legally harvested alligators, swamping the old record of 174 taken in 2020.

AGFC’s Luker earns national recognition for quail conservation

MONTICELLO — The National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative recently awarded Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Biologist David Luker the 2023 Arkansas Firebird Award. The award is presented annually to a biologist in each nominating state who goes above and beyond to improve habitat for northern bobwhites and other grassland species through the use of prescribed fire and other land management tools.

AGFC to partner with Clarksville, University of the Ozarks on proposed shooting range

PONCA — Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners at today’s meeting authorized AGFC Director Austin Booth to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the city of Clarksville and the University of the Ozarks to construct a new shooting sports complex. The proposed range will be open to the public and complement the university’s growing collegiate shooting sports program.

Arkansas River Trail Refresh

LITTLE ROCK — Hikers, cyclists and other outdoors enthusiasts in central Arkansas may notice a few changes along their favorite path from Two Rivers Park in Little Rock to downtown North Little Rock. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission recently completed updating 13 signs along the Arkansas RiverTrail to freshen up the artwork and ensure all information on the signs is up-to-date.
