Apply for a 2022 Arkansas alligator hunt permit

LITTLE ROCK – Applications for the 2022 Arkansas alligator season are available at www.agfc.com from 8 a.m., June 15 through midnight, June 30. Anyone interested in pursuing alligators on public land in Arkansas must apply for one of the six hunting locations within two of Arkansas’s three open Alligator Management Zones.

Olive takes helm of Arkansas fisheries

LITTLE ROCK — Jason Olive of El Dorado has been chosen to lead the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s efforts in fisheries management, hatchery production and aquatic conservation as chief of the agency’s Fisheries Division. Olive replaces former Fisheries Chief Ben Batten, who was promoted to AGFC deputy director at the May 19 Commission meeting in Little Rock.

USFWS seeks comments on Overflow and Felsenthal Refuge compatibility determinations

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced the availability of draft compatibility determinations for bicycling, hiking, backpacking and firewood cutting in the Overflow National Wildlife Refuge for public review and comment. The public comment period will extend from June 1, 2022 through June 15, 2022.

Fouke first among Arkansas’s trap-shooting teams

JACKSONVILLE — The Fouke “Claybusters” Senior Trapshooting Team took top honors at Saturday’s finale of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Youth Shooting Sports Program State Championship, held at the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation Jacksonville Shooting Sports Complex. The Claybusters climbed to the top of a heap of 64 of the best trap-shooting teams in the state to claim their place in legendary fashion, narrowly defeating a powerfully competitive Harrisburg Hornets “Castaways” team in the final round of competition.

LITTLE ROCK — It’s been one month since turkey hunters hung up the slate-and-peg or trusty box call in pursuit of one of the most addicting game species Arkansas has to offer, but that doesn’t mean it’s time out for turkeys at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. In fact, now is the perfect time to help biologists with the AGFC keep tabs on this year’s reproduction by participating in the annual Wild Turkey and Northern Bobwhite Population Survey.

Arkansas WMA Deer Hunt Permit opportunities expanded, apply today

LITTLE ROCK — The application period for special deer hunting permits on many wildlife management areas in Arkansas is open until 11:59 p.m. July 1, and hunters will notice many new opportunities, thanks to regulations passed during the May Commission meeting.

Arkansas Duck Stamp artwork to be revealed at Callapalooza 2022

STUTTGART — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation will celebrate Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s unveiling of the artwork to be featured on the 2022-23 Arkansas State Duck Stamp at 11:30 a.m., June 4 in Stuttgart. The unveiling will be coordinated with the annual event known as Callapalooza, which celebrates the art of duck call-making.
