Commission pursues opportunity with ASU to expand Cypress Bayou Wildlife Management Area

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission voted unanimously at today’s meeting to authorize the agency’s director to enter into a 10-year cooperative agreement with Arkansas State University to manage a 160-acre tract bordering Cypress Bayou WMA in White County and allow public hunting access to that property under the current regulations of the wildlife management area.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson proclaims June 11-13 Free Fishing Weekend in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK – Thanks to a proclamation by Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced Thursday, anyone may fish in Arkansas without a fishing license or trout stamp from noon Friday, June 11, through midnight Sunday night, June 13. The proclamation was read at the beginning of the Commission's May meeting by Megan Perkins, agriculture liaison to Hutchinson’s office.

AGFC authorizes access agreements at Shirey Bay Rainey Brake WMA

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission authorized AGFC Director Pat Fitts today to sign memorandums of agreement with the Lawrence County Conservation District and Flat Creek Watershed Improvement District to improve water delivery to flood Shirey Bay Rainey Brake Wildlife Management Area in northeast Arkansas.

Commission approves updated CWD management plan

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unanimously approved an update to the agency’s official Chronic Wasting Disease Management and Response Plan at today’s meeting. The meeting was condensed to a single day and conducted via teleconferencing software because of impassable roads throughout much of the state. Commission authorizes new boat access to Bayou Bartholomew

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unanimously approved at today’s regularly scheduled meeting the use of Marine Fuel Tax funds to build a boat ramp to Bayou Bartholomew at its intersection with Arkansas Highway 277 in Drew County.

Commission authorizes funding for critical habitat-enhancement projects

SPRINGDALE – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission authorized $760,000 to be allocated to five engineering projects vital for fish and wildlife conservation during today’s meeting. The meeting took place at the newly constructed J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center, preceding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the location.
