Southeast Arkansas WMAs closed March 8-13

MONTICELLO – Trusten Holder, Freddie Black Choctaw Island, Cut-Off Creek and Seven Devils wildlife management areas will be closed to daytime public access March 8-13. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations on the areas. The flights will be dependent on the weather.

UA Pine Tree WDA closed March 1-6

FORREST CITY – The University of Arkansas Pine Tree Experimental Station WDA will be closed to daytime public access March 1-6. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations in the area. The flights will be dependent on the weather.

Former AGFC Director Steve N. Wilson dies at 76

LITTLE ROCK — Steve N. Wilson, a former director of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and passionate conservationist, died in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Feb. 21 from complications of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and histoplasmosis. He was 76 years old.

MONTICELLO – Due to a flight crew issue, the Cut-Off Creek WMA and Seven Devils WMA closures planned for this week have been cancelled. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were scheduled to conduct aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations on the areas. The flights may be rescheduled in March.

Cut-Off Creek and Seven Devils WMAs closed Feb. 22-27

Commission approves updated CWD management plan

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission unanimously approved an update to the agency’s official Chronic Wasting Disease Management and Response Plan at today’s meeting. The meeting was condensed to a single day and conducted via teleconferencing software because of impassable roads throughout much of the state.
