Frog Bayou and Ozark Lake WMAs reopened

ALMA – Due to the lack of available pilots, this week’s U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Service aerial operations at Frog Bayou and Ozark Lake wildlife management areas have been suspended. The operations are part of a program aimed at reducing feral hog populations in the areas.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations in the areas. The flights will be dependent on the weather.

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program will kick off the 2022 catfish stocking season with a special fishing event from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2. at MacArthur Park in Little Rock.
Big Lake and UA Pine Tree areas closed beginning March 6

MANILA– Big Lake Wildlife Management Area and Big Lake National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to daytime public access March 6-12. The following week, the U of A Pine Tree Wildlife Management Area will be closed March 13-19. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations in the areas. The flights will be dependent on the weather.
AEDC awards $502,838 to support wildlife education, improve school conservation programs

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Economic Development Commission Division of Rural Services has awarded grants totaling $502,838.41 to promote wildlife education and improve school conservation programs to 183 schools, school districts, and conservation districts in 65 Arkansas counties. These grants are funded by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission through fines collected from hunting and fishing violations. Only money collected in the county where the violation occurred may be used as grant funds for that county.
