The regular Arkansas 60-day duck season is closed this week, but Saturday hunting will be available for youths, armed forces veterans and active dulty military personnel all day on public or private lands.

Finding water with cover might be a duck's biggest challenge while migrating through Arkansas after an abnormally dry summer and fall. Waterfowl season opens Saturday, Nov. 19, but the limited water will be a factor in hunter success again.

LITTLE ROCK — According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s report “Waterfowl Population Status, 2022,” released in late August, total duck population estimates in spring 2022 declined 12 percent from the last recorded survey taken in 2019, but that doesn’t necessarily sound an alarm with waterfowl managers who have seen similar fluctuations in the past.
