Virtual archery state championships host 96 teams across Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — Social-distancing requirements may have prevented the typical scene at Bank OZK Arena in Hot Springs for this year’s Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program State Championships, but schools from across the state still are competing to see who is the best at Olympic-style archery this week.

Schools’ archery score deadline extended to Feb. 24 to qualify for state

LITTLE ROCK – The coronavirus pandemic already made the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program tournaments – both the February regionals throughout Arkansas and the annual state finals usually staged in Hot Springs the first weekend in March – a virtual affair. Now with a double-whammy of a major winter storm in mid-February, the deadline for qualifying scores from virtual regional tournaments will be delayed a second week, to Wednesday, Feb. 24.

Outdoor Adventures program creates new outdoors opportunities for Arkansas schools, students

LITTLE ROCK — Thanks to a partnership between the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Outdoors Tomorrow Foundation, Arkansas schools can now add semester-length programs focused on outdoor recreation that qualify for a Physical Education credit.

HOT SPRINGS – For the fourth year, Hill Farm Elementary School in Bryant will be sending several youngsters to Louisville, Kentucky, for the National Archery in the Schools Program Eastern National tournament.

Alpena’s balanced scoring leads to Senior ANASP title

HOT SPRINGS – Alpena High School came into the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program state tournament as the top scoring team from February’s Senior Division regional competitions. Alpena’s balanced scoring among team members held up again Saturday, March 7, in winning a state championship by 12 points over Valley Springs High School and 36 other competing teams.
