AGFC’s Luker earns national recognition for quail conservation

MONTICELLO — The National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative recently awarded Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Biologist David Luker the 2023 Arkansas Firebird Award. The award is presented annually to a biologist in each nominating state who goes above and beyond to improve habitat for northern bobwhites and other grassland species through the use of prescribed fire and other land management tools.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK – As Major Brian Aston of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission read off a three-minute list of some of the more amazing accomplishments of the officer he would announce Tuesday as the 2023 Sgt. Monty Carmikle Arkansas Game Warden of the Year, it struck some people in the audience that it was a wonder the winner would have time to attend the presentation, much less have much time away from his work.

AGFC enforcement officers recognized for bravery, accomplishments

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The National Wild Turkey Federation at its 46th annual national convention Feb. 18, presented Jason Mitchell, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife biologist, with the Joe Kurz Wildlife Manager of the Year Award, for his outstanding management of wild turkeys and wildlife habitat management.

Majors, Mitchell honored with NWTF annual awards

LITTLE ROCK — Two Arkansas Game and Fish Commission employees were given awards from the Arkansas chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation at the AGFC’s March 18 meeting, held in Little Rock. Sgt. Chris Majors from Calico Rock and Jason Mitchell from Mena were both presented annual awards for their work toward wild turkey conservation in The Natural State. 

AGFC’s Burnley earns Trout Unlimited award

FAYETTEVILLE  — The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the nation’s grassroots army for trout and fisheries restoration and conservation, has named Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Stream Habitat Supervisor Tim Burnley as this year’s recipient of the annual Ray Smith Conservation Award. 

AGFC’s Davis named 2020 SEAFWA Wildlife Officer of the Year

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies named Cpl. Mac Davis of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission the 2020 Colonel Bob Brantly Wildlife Officer of the Year at their 74th annual meeting, held virtually Oct. 26-28. Davis has 20 years of law enforcement experience, including seven with the AGFC.
