HARRISBURG — As trucks unload large gray riprap and spray improved shorelines around Lake Poinsett in Poinsett County, Brett Timmons and his natural resources program technician, Tristan Bulice from Arkansas State University, continue to drag artificial habitat structures to the bed of the lake, nearing the end of a three-year marathon. The 471-acre lake has been dry since 2017 to complete a massive renovation involving many moving parts.
Lake Elmdale repair on track

ROGERS — The repair to Lake Elmdale’s spillway is going as smooth as can be expected, in spite of temporary setbacks caused by COVID-19 and recent rains from Hurricane Laura that soaked much of Arkansas last week.

PLUMMERVILLE — A winning weight of 10 fish for just over 10 pounds would have most bass-fishing tournament directors contemplating a permanent blacklisting of the lake from their schedule, but Jared Pridmore, director of the Lake Brewer Bass Club and owner of JP Custom Baits, was nothing but smiles when he saw the results of his “Tiny Fish Tournament” in April. The only thing that made him happier than the low weight was the sight of the fish-filled cooler where participants turned in their fish instead of releasing them to the water.

Prepared baits are also found in a wide variety of forms, smells and textures. All of these baits have their place and time on a hook, but few rival a natural seasonal bait that shows up in Arkansas in mid-summer: the catalpa worm.
Big Buzz Bass tournament returns to Lake Maumelle

LITTLE ROCK — The fifth annual Big Buzz Bass tournament presented by Bradford Marine and ATV returns to Lake Maumelle June 13, with more than $6,000 in prizes up for grabs. For the second consecutive year the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is working with 103.7 FM The Buzz to support the tournament and Arkansas bass fishing.
