LITTLE ROCK — When Luke Naylor was promoted last summer to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Wildlife Management Division chief, it meant that one of his tougher chores would be finding his own replacement for waterfowl program coordinator, a key agency post he held for 16 years.

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is accepting applications for summer internships until March 31, 2023. These internships, funded by sales of the AGFC’s Conservation License Plates, let students gain hands-on training and experience needed to compete for a future career in conservation.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The National Wild Turkey Federation at its 46th annual national convention Feb. 18, presented Jason Mitchell, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife biologist, with the Joe Kurz Wildlife Manager of the Year Award, for his outstanding management of wild turkeys and wildlife habitat management.
Former Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners, staff to be inducted into Arkansas Waterfowler Hall of Fame

STUTTGART - Former AGFC Commissioner W.R. “Witt” Stephens Jr. and former AGFC Biologist and Assistant Director Carl Hunter will be added into the Arkansas Waterfowler Hall of Fame in an induction ceremony September 23 at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock. Members of the 2020 class also will be recognized as COVID-19 forced the cancellation of last year’s event.
Majors, Mitchell honored with NWTF annual awards

LITTLE ROCK — Two Arkansas Game and Fish Commission employees were given awards from the Arkansas chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation at the AGFC’s March 18 meeting, held in Little Rock. Sgt. Chris Majors from Calico Rock and Jason Mitchell from Mena were both presented annual awards for their work toward wild turkey conservation in The Natural State.

MOUNTAIN HOME — More than 40 mature trees that fell victim to a freak windstorm in January now have a second life, providing cover for crappie, bass and other fish, thanks to the efforts of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a volunteer student from Calico Rock High School.
