Arkansas River Trail Refresh

LITTLE ROCK — Hikers, cyclists and other outdoors enthusiasts in central Arkansas may notice a few changes along their favorite path from Two Rivers Park in Little Rock to downtown North Little Rock. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission recently completed updating 13 signs along the Arkansas RiverTrail to freshen up the artwork and ensure all information on the signs is up-to-date.

Rare Mississippi River management area offers isolated experience for explorers at heart

HELENA —  A trip to Buck Island Wildlife Management Area may take a little extra effort, but it offers an unspoiled view of the Mississippi River few have the pleasure of experiencing. The 1,510-acre island in the Mississippi River just north of Helena River Park is accessible only by boat and is an excellent point for advanced paddlers to begin the journey to Freddie Black Choctaw Island WMA 106 river miles south along the Lower Mississippi River Water Trail.

AGFC, partners offer new experience for birding community

123rd annual Christmas Bird Count begins Dec. 14

LITTLE ROCK — Waterfowl hunters aren’t the only people watching the skies during the holiday season. Birdwatching enthusiasts will be catching the winter migration of songbirds, shorebirds and all sorts of avian species during this year’s annual Christmas Bird Count, Dec. 14-Jan. 5, coordinated by the National Audubon Society. 

Great Backyard Bird Count celebrates silver anniversary Feb. 18-21

LITTLE ROCK — For a quarter of a century the annual Great Backyard Bird Count has been a bright spot for nature lovers. The 25th edition of the event is coming up February 18 through 21. Everyone is invited to join the count so their birds become part of the massive database used by scientists to track changes in bird populations over time. The Great Backyard Bird Count is a joint project of the National Audubon SocietyCornell Lab of Ornithology, and Birds Canada.
