Prepare for the cold at tailwater trout locations this summer

HEBER SPRINGS — Although not normally thought of as float streams, Arkansas’s trout-fishing areas are quickly gaining solid reputations with the growing numbers of kayak anglers in the Natural State. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission would like to remind all boaters that preparing for a safe day on cold, flowing water in summer requires extra precautions beyond what most flat-water paddlers typically experience.

Arkansas boating accidents double in 2020

HOT SPRINGS — Arkansas waters saw a spike in the number of boating accidents last year compared to 2019, according to data compiled by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s annual Boating Accident Year-end Report.

AGFC urges boaters to be safe and socially conscious during holiday weekend

LITTLE ROCK — Boating enforcement officers with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are working hard to keep our waters safe, and want to remind everyone to practice safe boating habits and social distancing recommendations as we head into the Independence Day holiday. They will be ramping up enforcement efforts this weekend as part of the national Operation Dry Water campaign to reduce instances of boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Save on hunter and boating education courses in April

LITTLE ROCK — Kalkomey, the online source for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Hunter and Boating Education programs, is offering a special 25 percent discount on online courses for Hunter Education and Boating Education certification for two weeks in response to the coronavirus and the cancellation of in-person courses.

Operation Dry Water promotes increased safety during extended holiday weekend

LITTLE ROCK — With Independence Day falling on a Thursday this year, many people are taking full advantage of an extended stay at their favorite lakeside retreat. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is asking that everyone enjoying the revelry be aware of the dangers brought about by drinking while aboard a boat. To help make the weekend safe, wildlife officers throughout Arkansas are gearing up for Operation Dry Water July 5-7. 

AGFC advises boaters to stay off Arkansas River during Memorial Day weekend

LITTLE ROCK — Memorial Day weekend is synonymous with fun in the sun, fishing, and enjoying time on the water, but the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is warning everyone to steer clear of the Arkansas River this year, due to the massive amount of water being released from reservoirs throughout Oklahoma that have nearly reached capacity from spring rainfall.
