HEBER SPRINGS — The biggest brook trout swimming in Arkansas might have been caught last Saturday, and anglers still have a chance to catch it again thanks to a conservation-minded college student who is already earning her stripes as a veteran angler. Megan Gray managed to land a beautiful brook trout approaching the 5-pound state-record mark from the Little Red River in Central Arkansas.

MOUNTAIN HOME – Native to Europe, the German brown trout found in the tailwaters of Beaver, Bull Shoals, Norfork and Greers Ferry dams, typically start their spawning run during fall and winter, offering die-hard anglers a chance at some fantastic fishing. This is especially true for striped bass pulled from Arkansas’s top striped bass fisheries. It may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your striped bass can actually increase the number of stripers available for other anglers.
