AGFC to host public meetings concerning new cases of fatal deer disease

SPRINGDALE – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host special public meetings concerning chronic wasting disease in Fort Smith and Springdale. The Fort Smith meeting will be held at the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center beginning at 6 p.m., April 3. The Springdale meeting will be held at Cross Church, 1709 Johnson Road, beginning at 6 p.m., April 5.
Biologists asking motorists to report road-killed deer for disease research

LITTLE ROCK – Biologists are ramping up roadkill surveys for the next month and are asking all Arkansans to report any dead deer they see along roads and highways. Road-killed deer offer biologists a chance to monitor for chronic wasting disease throughout the state without the need to kill deer to obtain samples.
Mississippi discovers first case of chronic wasting disease

VICKSBURG – A tissue sample collected Jan. 25 from a free-ranging white-tailed deer in extreme southern Issaquena County, Mississippi, returned the first known positive test of chronic wasting disease in the state.

LITTLE ROCK – Chronic wasting disease, detected in Arkansas almost two years ago, has been found in three more counties. Four white-tailed deer in Benton, Washington and Sebastian counties recently tested positive for the deadly disease, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Biological samples reveal 70 new cases of CWD, no new counties affected

Seventy new cases of chronic wasting disease have been found in Arkansas since deer season opened in September, according to samples collected by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists, taxidermists and veterinarians. Although the number of positive cases is high, no samples from new areas of the state have been found so far. The disease has been found in Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Newton, Pope and Searcy counties since September.
Fifty-three elk harvested so far in 2017

Arkansas hunters have taken 53 elk during the 2017 regular elk hunts, and more may be harvested by the end of hunting season, thanks to regulations passed to help contain the elk herd to Boone Carroll, Madison, Newton and Searcy counties.
Free CWD testing available on opening weekend of deer season in 11 Arkansas counties

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will have voluntary biological sampling stations set up in each of the 11 counties contained in the Chronic Wasting Disease Management Zone this weekend for hunters to get their deer tested for free.
