Deadline extended for Arkansas Wildlife Federation student art contest

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Wildlife Federation has extended the deadline for its Wildlife of Arkansas Student Art Contest. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade now may submit artwork online by April 15 through a portal on the AWF website, https://arwild.org/art-contest.

Northwest Arkansas nature center opens squirrel season with hunting contest

SPRINGDALE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host its inaugural Big Squirrel Classic squirrel-hunting derby May 15 at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in northwest Arkansas. The squirrel-hunting contest is a free celebration of the opening of squirrel season in The Natural State.

FORT SMITH — The Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center is hosting a special contest for aspiring writers and conservationists in May: a special poetry contest focused on conservation and the environment. Winners will be featured in the September/October issue of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s award-winning magazine, Arkansas Wildlife.
