Memorable catch rivals record-book brookie

HEBER SPRINGS — The biggest brook trout swimming in Arkansas might have been caught last Saturday, and anglers still have a chance to catch it again thanks to a conservation-minded college student who is already earning her stripes as a veteran angler. Megan Gray managed to land a beautiful brook trout approaching the 5-pound state-record mark from the Little Red River in Central Arkansas.

AGFC, UAPB to present trout research at Greers Ferry Tailwater plan meeting March 21

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will present results of recent research on the wild brown trout fishery in the Greers Ferry Tailwater at 6 p.m. March 21. The presentation will be part of the regular meeting of the Arkansas Fly Fishers and will be held at the AGFC Little Rock Headquarters Auditorium at 2 Natural Resources Drive in Little Rock. Anyone interested in fishing on the tailwater is welcome to attend.

But biologists ask anglers to keep a conservation mindset when chasing these gems of the tailwater so everyone will be able to enjoy them for years to come.

Little Red River trout management, habitat work update June 6

HEBER SPRINGS — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special public meeting about the progress made in habitat work and trout management efforts on the Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam. The open public meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 6 in Room Four of the Heber Springs Community Center at 201 Bobbie Jean Lane in Heber Springs.

Little Red River enjoys bonus brook trout

The Little Red River below Greers Ferry recently saw a few extra brook trout in August, thanks to a surplus of fish at the Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery..Hatchery staff released 860, 9-inch brook trout into the Greers Ferry Tailwater, which were left over after stockings were completed for the Bull Shoals and Norfork tailwaters.
