Renovation complete on Nimmo Access to Little Red River

SEARCY – The construction of a new boat ramp on the Little Red River near Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA was completed Sept. 20 and is now open for use in this popular fishing and hunting area in north-central Arkansas.

Glaise Creek restoration work closes road to Big Hurricane Lake

BALD KNOB – The road leading to Big Hurricane Lake in the Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area was closed Tuesday, Sept. 27, and will not reopen until completion of work on a new Glaise Creek water-control structure. The structure is essential to renovating bottomland hardwood forests within the WMA, which saw substantial die-offs beginning in 2018.

Portion of Glaise Creek Road in Hurricane WMA closes Tuesday

BALD KNOB – A portion of road running beside Glaise Creek and Whirl Lake in the Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area will be closed effective Tuesday, Sept. 27, and will not reopen until completion of work on a new Glaise Creek water-control structure, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said.

Commission keeps conservation work on track

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners at today’s meeting approved a $1 million budget transfer within the agency’s existing budget to complete the construction and installation of the Glaise Creek water-control structure on Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area to improve drainage and the capacity for sustainable bottomland hardwood forest management on the WMA.

Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to add 550 acres of high-quality habitat to Northwest Arkansas WMA

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission today authorized AGFC Director Austin Booth to enter into an agreement with The Nature Conservancy to purchase 550 acres of property joining two sections of McIlroy Madison County Wildlife Management Area in Northwest Arkansas at its monthly meeting at the AGFC headquarters.

Plug removal at Hurricane Lake WMA complete

BALD KNOB — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission completed work to remove clogged culverts and install stream crossings on Mallard Pond Road at Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area last week and the road will be able to see some traffic this weekend in time for the second segment of the 2021-22 waterfowl season. 

Funding continues to flow for Hurricane Lake WMA renovation

SEARCY — Thanks to a recently awarded North American Wetlands Conservation Act grant approved by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the work to restore Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area continues to stay on track. The grant, valued at $1.99 million will substantially offset the estimated $4.6 million needed to restore drainage to Glaise Creek on the WMA and install a water-control structure wide enough to allow water to flow through the WMA and to the White River.
