2023 Turkey Guidebook outlines new permit hunt opportunities

LITTLE ROCK — Hunters will soon be able to pick up their printed copy of the 2023 Arkansas Turkey Hunting Guidebook at sporting goods stores across Arkansas, but those who visit agfc.com will see the online version and a few new opportunities to hunt popular wildlife management areas this turkey season.

Youths learn gun safety, outdoors appreciation in mentored hunt

LITTLE ROCK – Randy Douglas treasures the memories of his first exposure to hunting and fishing, beginning around the age of 7, and he’s been determined to pay that back to today’s youths. Douglas hosted 10 fledgling outdoors participants, during the weekend of the November Arkansas youth deer hunt.  Two of whom had won spots for the hunt through The Big Catch, a community fishing event held twice a year in Little Rock. This year, Douglas followed that up on Jan. 1-2 by taking three more young hunters and families to learn about hunting and the outdoors.

AGFC expands waterfowl hunting opportunities through online draws

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has changed the format of some of its popular permit-drawn waterfowl hunts to increase the opportunity for hunters throughout the state.

LITTLE ROCK - Five private rice fields that are part of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement program are being made available to public hunters via draw for next weekend, Sept. 25-26, during the state’s special early teal season.

Arkansas alligator season opens Sept. 17

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansans looking for adventure in the wetlands may want to call a friend in south Arkansas to see if there’s an opportunity to take part in this year’s private land alligator hunt Sept. 17-20 and Sept. 24-27. While public hunting opportunities have all been awarded through the AGFC’s draw process in July, private land hunting for alligators follows a quota system that offers more opportunities for people who weren’t lucky enough to draw a public hunting permit.

Twenty Arkansans draw elk hunting permits

LITTLE ROCK – Twenty Arkansans will have the hunt of a lifetime this fall as they chase elk on public land in The Natural State. Their names were chosen via random computerized draw last week.

AGFC offers payments to rice producers for habitat and hunting access

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is accepting applications from rice field owners to enroll in its expanded Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement program. Landowners may receive as much as $150 per acre annually while still maintaining the current production of rice fields. Applications are available at www.agfc.com/wrice and will be accepted until June 1.
