AGFC issues irrigation warning

LITTLE ROCK — Employees and contractors with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be conducting herbicide applications to the following lakes beginning June 5.

  • Lake Atkins in Pope County
  • Craig D. Campbell Lake Conway Reservoir in Faulkner County
  • Lake Overcup in Conway County
  • The Cabin Creek arm of Lake Dardanelle in Johnson Count

Invasive carp find purpose at Forrest City fish market

FORREST CITY – The nationally renowned late restaurant entrepreneur Dave Thomas created a different kind of beef patty and with it the Wendy’s burger chain that rivaled the biggest in the world. David Thomas, a commercial fisherman from Johnson County, also is wanting to introduce people to a different kind of meat patty.

Aerial feral hog eradication efforts to temporarily close access to WMAs

MONTICELLO – Six Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife management areas will be temporarily closed for short periods in March in cooperation with rthe Arkansas Feral Hog Task Force to fight the spread of invasive feral swine in Arkansas. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations in the areas. The flights will be dependent on the weather.  

AGFC offering anglers the tools to prevent the spread of giant salvinia from Erling

TAYLOR — Anglers visiting Lake Erling will find a new cleaning station for their boats at AGRED Park and boat ramp — one designed to help fight the spread of aquatic nuisance species such as giant salvinia, a floating aquatic plant native to South America,  considered one of the world's worst invasive plants, and one the lake owners and AGFC have been fighting since its arrival to the lake in 2018.

Devil’s Eyebrow Natural Area unit of Kirk Dupps Beaver Lake WMA closed beginning Dec. 5

GARFIELD – The Devil’s Eyebrow portion of the Kirk Dupps Beaver Lake WMA Devil's Eyebrow Natural Area will be closed to daytime public access Dec. 5-7. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations in the areas. The flights will be dependent on the weather.  

Hunters urged to clean, drain and dry during duck season

LITTLE ROCK – When the second segment of waterfowl season opens Dec. 10, hunters are hoping to have more water to spread out in search of mallards and memories. Before moving their boats to new areas, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission strongly urges all hunters to closely inspect their boats, trailers and hunting equipment for vegetation and other invasive stowaways that could spread to new areas and destroy wildlife habitat.
