Bears, bluebirds and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers highlight AGFC meeting

MAGNOLIA — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission today heard several presentations on wildlife and fisheries research projects during its monthly meeting, hosted by Southern Arkansas University. In addition to projects presented by AGFC staff on the 2022 Arkansas bear season, commissioners heard presentations by two SAU students working through the university’s Outdoor Campus.

AGFC lowers booms on giant salvinia spread at Lake Columbia and beyond

MAGNOLIA – Giant salvinia, a highly invasive aquatic plant that was first detected in Lake Columbia in December 2019, has the full attention of Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Fisheries Division. AGFC biologists have partnered with multiple agencies in attempts to slow its potential spread not only in this lake, but in other nearby waterways.

Lake Columbia owner works to limit giant salvinia spread

AGFC hosts public meetings on future of Lake Columbia fishery

MAGNOLIA — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a public input meeting regarding fisheries management on Lake Columbia at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 in the Grand Hall of the Reynolds Center at Southern Arkansas University. The center is at 100 East University Street in Magnolia.

Giant salvinia creeps into Lake Columbia

MAGNOLIA – The sun may have cooked away any rainbows over Lake Columbia on Saturday, July 27, but local angler David Lee Sisson certainly found the proverbial pot of gold when he netted a fish few in the fishing world have ever heard of. A golden crappie surfaced at the end of his line during one of his frequent trips to the 3,000-acre fishing destination in Columbia County.
