Learn the ropes at Central Arkansas fly-fishing fair

LITTLE ROCK —  The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and Arkansas Fly Fishers will host a special fly-fishing event from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Witt Stephens Jr. Central Arkansas Nature Center in the River Market District of Downtown Little Rock. Anyone interested in fly-fishing, fly-tying or simply enjoying the beauty of a stream flowing through the mountains in fall is encouraged to attend.

Northwest Arkansas nature center opens squirrel season with hunting contest

SPRINGDALE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host its inaugural Big Squirrel Classic squirrel-hunting derby May 15 at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in northwest Arkansas. The squirrel-hunting contest is a free celebration of the opening of squirrel season in The Natural State.

Virtual workshop makes building a turkey call reality

FORT SMITH — The Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center will hold a special turkey hunting workshop where participants will learn to build their own turkey call at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 12. Thanks to some innovative thinking, you don’t have to be present to build.

SPRINGDALE — With its much-anticipated grand opening this Friday, the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center is sure to become another must-see venue in Northwest Arkansas. While the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission anticipates well over 100,000 visitors per year at the new center, social-distancing measures must be kept in place during the current pandemic.
