Veterans and families squirrel hunt continues to create memories

MT. IDA — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife officers for the fifth year in a row joined Warrior Hunts for its annual “Squirrel-a-palooza” veteran’s squirrel hunt in the Ouachita Mountains last weekend.
Food plots create helpful habitat for wildlife and hunters on public land

PARON — With archery deer season opening Sept. 28, many hunters are hitting the woods looking for likely places to set up for the season. On private land, many are dragging a disc and spreading their favorite seed mix to grow food that will draw wildlife to their stand. Thanks to the work of Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife biologists throughout the state, tractors are turning dirt to plant thousands of food plots on public hunting areas as well.
Fires on Winona and Piney Creeks WMAs stern reminder of dry conditions

Hunters, campers and other outdoors enthusiasts should pay particular attention to the dry conditions as they enjoy the outdoors, as it only takes a spark to start what could become an uncontrolled wildfire. The U.S. Forest Service currently is working to contain two wildfires, one on Winona WMA in the Ouachita National Forest, and the other on Piney Creeks WMA in the Ozark National Forest.
