Deer hunters advised to check with local processors before bringing deer to their door

LITTLE ROCK — Hunters planning to hit the woods Oct. 17 for Arkansas’s muzzleloader season and Nov. 14 for modern gun deer season may want to check with the deer processor they normally use to make the most of their harvest. Some processors who handle domestic livestock may be seeing a backlog from recent direct-to-butcher purchases at the beginning of this summer’s meat shortage.

Woods to School nutrition program connects hunters to children in need

JONESBORO — Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Craighead County Community Foundation, provided 4,000 packages of Arkansas-sourced venison snack sticks to less fortunate students in the Nettleton and Buffalo Island school districts in Jonesboro as part of its expanding Woods to School program that will provide 50,000 packages of snack sticks to students in 75 Arkansas schools this year.

STUTTGART – The first World Championship Snow Goose Conservation Hunt, organized by Mack’s Prairie Wings and held Feb. 9-10, raised $31,000 for charity, with a third of that going to Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry, a nonprofit that works with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and hunters to provide wild game for needy, hungry recipients.
 

Healthy Snack Stick Program Will Reach 12,000 Children

LITTLE ROCK – One of the new projects of Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry is bringing snack sticks of deer meat and pork to thousands of young students and several of the state’s schools. Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners learned about it last week and found it worthy enough to contribute grant money totaling $100,000 over the next four years to help the endeavor.

2017-18 urban deer hunt application period open

The application period for Arkansas’s special urban bowhunts for the 2017-18 hunting season is now open and will run until 6:30 p.m., August 18.
