Departee Creek diversity surprises hunters and birdwatchers

BRADFORD – Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area nearby is far more renowned, and vastly larger, but there are three tracts of land just to the north in White County that make up Departee Creek WMA, which punches well beyond its weight in terms of wildlife opportunities.

Additional dove fields planned for Labor Day Weekend

LITTLE ROCK —For the last seven years, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has cranked the excitement to Labor Day Weekend by adding a few special draw hunts on managed dove fields. The application window for those hunts is closed and applicants can visit www.agfc.com/license and click the "Special Hunt Application Status" tab to see their results. If you weren’t lucky in the draw, you can still make your own luck by checking out one of the other opening day opportunities being prepared by AGFC staff for dove season.

WMA Deer Permit Hunt applications available July 1-31

LITTLE ROCK – Deer hunters shooting for some of Arkansas’s best public land opportunities will have the full month of July to apply for one of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Wildlife Management Area Deer Permit hunts. Applications for these hunts are available from 8 a.m. July 1 until midnight July 31 through the AGFC’s licensing system at www.agfc.com.

MOUNTAIN HOME — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission formally adopted regulations Thursday that will add 4,706 acres of public hunting opportunity in The Natural State beginning with the 2023-24 hunting seasons. The announcement was one of many high points in a special series of meetings and events in north Arkansas during the last three days.
