LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special Becoming an Outdoors-Woman weekend getaway, Oct. 6-8 at the C.A. Vines 4 H Center in Little Rock with workshops throughout each day to help ladies learn how to hunt, fish and be a larger part of conservation in Arkansas.

PINE BLUFF — Finding a place to start hunting if one doesn’t have family or friends who enjoy an outdoors lifestyle can be intimidating. Thanks to a new program through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Gov. Mike Huckabee Delta Rivers Nature Center, six “adult onset” hunters overcame that hurdle and joined the ranks of seasoned bowhunters last fall.

The Wild Science Webinar is a monthly series featuring Arkansas Game and Fish Commission staff presenting research and projects about Arkansas fish and wildlife. In this month's webinar, Maurice Jackson, Family and Community Fishing Program Coordinator, will present "Family and Community Fishing Program: A Recruitment, Retention and Reactivation (R3) Approach to the Outdoors" and Jeremy Wood, Turkey Program Coordinator, will present "Keeping Track of Wild Turkeys in Arkansas".
Youths learn gun safety, outdoors appreciation in mentored hunt

LITTLE ROCK – Randy Douglas treasures the memories of his first exposure to hunting and fishing, beginning around the age of 7, and he’s been determined to pay that back to today’s youths. Douglas hosted 10 fledgling outdoors participants, during the weekend of the November Arkansas youth deer hunt. Two of whom had won spots for the hunt through The Big Catch, a community fishing event held twice a year in Little Rock. This year, Douglas followed that up on Jan. 1-2 by taking three more young hunters and families to learn about hunting and the outdoors.
AGFC and City of Benton take fishing in-depth through summer program

BENTON — A recent partnership between the City of Benton’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission may provide a template for success in introducing youth to the joys of angling in Arkansas. Four groups of children, aged 4 through 13, and their parents all had the opportunity to participate in a special multi-class fishing program at Benton’s River Center recreation complex.
