AGFC biologists round up Lake Erling catfish in rodeo for new study

TAYLOR – Biologists from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spent a week in June getting a good look at the size and scope of the flathead and blue catfish swimming the waters of Lake Erling, in the southwest corner of the state. The verdict from the study is yet to be determined until samples are analyzed, but the initial view is that Lake Erling has some big catfish, to be sure.

Report road-killed deer to help AGFC monitor disease

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be ramping up efforts at disease-monitoring surveys, beginning Sept. 17, and are asking motorists to help by reporting any road-killed deer they see along Arkansas’s roads and highways.

Many CWD testing options available for 2018-19 deer season

LITTLE ROCK - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has activated many options for hunters to test their harvested deer for chronic wasting disease for the upcoming hunting season. All methods to test deer for CWD in Arkansas are voluntary and most are free of charge to the hunter. 
 

Biological samples reveal 70 new cases of CWD, no new counties affected

Seventy new cases of chronic wasting disease have been found in Arkansas since deer season opened in September, according to samples collected by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists, taxidermists and veterinarians. Although the number of positive cases is high, no samples from new areas of the state have been found so far. The disease has been found in Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion, Newton, Pope and Searcy counties since September.
