HEBER SPRINGS — Biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission boosted the food chain at Greers Ferry Lake this week with the release of at least 476,000 threadfin shad from the lake’s nursery pond near Mill Creek Recreation Area.

AGFC lays fishing foundation at Lake Poinsett

HARRISBURG — The shovels may be done turning dirt at Lake Poinsett, but biologists are still busy laying the foundation for good fishing in the newly renovated lake in Poinsett County. Last week, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission stocked thousands of baitfish into the waters of the refilling lake in an effort to produce a fantastic fishery in the coming years. 

AGFC’S Hogan hatchery improvements to increase efficiency

LONOKE — Thanks to a planned renovation, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Joe Hogan State Fish Hatchery will soon be able to increase efficiency and provide even more benefit to Arkansas anglers. The next phase of the Hogan renovation, slated for this year, includes the engineering and construction of an indoor spawning and hatching facility for warmwater species raised at the hatchery.

LITTLE ROCK — While fall temperatures are driving most anglers indoors or to the deer woods, staff at Arkansas Game and Fish Commission hatcheries throughout the state are still going full bore to improve future fishing conditions for anglers. More than 4 million threadfin shad have been raised in hatchery locations and nursery ponds throughout the year, and most of those shad have been released into Arkansas lakes in the last month.

AGFC hatcheries produce more than 7.4 million fish in 2018

HOT SPRINGS — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission stocked 7,451,885 fish to supplement The Natural State’s waters and provide increased opportunity for anglers in 2018.
