Cooper Jester, who was fishing with his sister, Avry, and guide John Duncan on DeGray Lake, found the crappie still biting well there this week. John says he nicknamed the pair Toad Thumper (for Cooper) and Slab Slayer (for Avry, see her catch below in the DeGray Lake report from John). Crappie fishing has been unusually stronger deeper into June this year, our reports say. Photo provided by John Duncan.

ROGERS – With summer heat finally breaking loose, water temperatures are on the rise. With warmer water temperature comes an inevitable increase in fish mortality, even with catch-and-release fishing. This is especially true for striped bass pulled from Arkansas’s top striped bass fisheries. It may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your striped bass can actually increase the number of stripers available for other anglers.

Nick Harris of Little Rock found the bream on fire Sunday afternoon at Lake Maumelle. These are a couple of the 20 or so he caught in the first hour of fishing. With the full moon upon us here as we move into June, the bream will be spawning and this will be a big weekend for fishing. Consider taking a kid along for a great day and evening of bream fishing and an experience the youngster won't forget. Photo by Randy Zellers.
