HOT SPRINGS – Stephen Tyson Jr.'s early competitive fishing Saturday in the Phoenix Bass Fishing League tournament on Lake Hamilton was interrupted by an extended fight with a fish he didn’t count on: a massive striped bass.
Arkansas hatchery convoy completes 2,200-mile striped bass stocking

SPRINGDALE — Striped bass on the Atlantic Coast may travel hundreds of miles from the ocean to freshwater bays to spawn, but thanks to the efforts of Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologists, some landlocked stripers in Beaver, Norfork and Ouachita lakes can claim a spawning run measuring thousands of miles. Last week, hatchery staff transported a load of striped bass fingerlings from Watha, North Carolina, on a 2,200-mile road trip that lasted nearly 72 hours from start to finish.
Keep some striped bass for conservation

ROGERS – With summer heat finally breaking loose, water temperatures are on the rise. With warmer water temperature comes an inevitable increase in fish mortality, even with catch-and-release fishing. This is especially true for striped bass pulled from Arkansas’s top striped bass fisheries. It may seem counterintuitive, but keeping your striped bass can actually increase the number of stripers available for other anglers.

Coronavirus slows Arkansas fish hatcheries, halts 2020 striped bass project

HOT SPRINGS — Just as Arkansans have been able to enjoy most outdoor activities during the current coronavirus emergency, most conservation professionals have been able to perform their job duties with some creative thinking and modifications to their routine. Workers at the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s five fish hatcheries, however, have not been as fortunate.
