LITTLE ROCK — Cooler weather and rain may bring mixed emotions for wingshooters looking forward to some September seasons. Cloudbursts brought on the wings of Hurricane Laura have transformed some areas of the state overnight, affecting the prospects for dove hunting and early teal season this year.
Early teal season offers first chance for Arkansas duck hunters

LITTLE ROCK — Sunday marks the first shot hunters have at taking a duck his year, and it’s a tricky shot at that. The early teal season is open Sept. 15-30, so hunters can have an opportunity to harvest some of these small ducks that typically migrate before the rest of the crowd.

JONESBORO - Blue-winged teal and other early migrants are beginning their annual trek south, and nearly all of the moist-soil units managed to produce food on Arkansas public land are in excellent condition to welcome them. A recent report showed outstanding crops of native vegetation as well as excellent stands of millet cover crops in units where moist-soil plants were slow to develop or knocked back to encourage better growth next year.
Spinning-wing decoys not allowed for teal hunting on WMAs, AGFC-owned lakes

Teal season opens Sept. 15 in Arkansas, and for the first time since 2008, teal hunters on Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife management areas will not be allowed to use spinning-wing, or motion decoys to attract teal during the special early hunt or ducks during the special youth waterfowl hunt.
