Donation offers scholarship to top shot at Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program

LITTLE ROCK — Student athletes considering participating in this year’s Arkansas Youth Shooting Sports Program have a new reason to sign up and build their shotgunning skills: the chance to claim a $1,250 scholarship as top gun in the Champion of Champions shoot that will be held in conjunction with the program’s state championship event.

Commissioners’ Cup bass tournament focused on next generation of anglers

LITTLE ROCK – Thanks to the efforts of the Arkansas Game and Fish Foundation and many volunteers, and donations from Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioners, high school anglers in Arkansas have a new pinnacle to pursue in bass fishing: the Commissioners’ Cup. In its inaugural year, the tournament will take place on Lake Hamilton June 1-2.

Archers take aim at state championship through regional tournaments

LITTLE ROCK – 3,554 students filed into middle and high school gymnasiums across Arkansas last weekend to take their shot at qualifying for the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program State Championship. Regional shoots were held in 12 locations, covering every region of the state.

Anglers, biologists work hard to keep bass at Forrest Wood Cup healthy

HOT SPRINGS - Fifty-six of the best bass anglers in the world will be showing off their catch and talking to huge crowds at this weekend’s Forrest Wood Cup in Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs, but biologists and tournament officials will be scrambling to take care of the true stars of the show, the largemouth and spotted bass to be displayed during the event’s weigh-ins at 5 p.m. Friday-Sunday.

Murfreesboro takes top honors at state archery competition

HOT SPRINGS – The Rattler Senior High Archery Team from Murfreesboro placed one boy and two girls in the top 10 of their respective divisions and slipped away with the team title in the Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program state championship last Saturday at Bank of the Ozarks Arena.
