Trout coming to community ponds for Thanksgiving, catfish season closes with prize

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program is kicking off winter in style by releasing hundreds of tagged rainbow trout in program ponds throughout the state.

Many proposed changes to fishing regulations on the White River and North Fork River below Bull Shoals and Norfork Dams may be pushed forward for public review in the next month, thanks to spirited conversations and debates at two focus groups concerning the latest review of those fisheries management plans.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special public workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Aug. 24, at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center in Convention Center Rooms A and B. The center is located on the ASU Mountain Home campus.  The purpose of the workshop is to review and revise the Bull Shoals and Norfork Tailwaters Trout Management Plan.

Little Red River enjoys bonus brook trout

The Little Red River below Greers Ferry recently saw a few extra brook trout in August, thanks to a surplus of fish at the Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery..Hatchery staff released 860, 9-inch brook trout into the Greers Ferry Tailwater, which were left over after stockings were completed for the Bull Shoals and Norfork tailwaters.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special public workshop from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., August 3 at the Vada Sheid Community Development Center in Convention Center Rooms A and B to begin reviewing the trout management plans for the Bull Shoals and Norfork tailwaters. The center is located on the Arkansas State University Mountain Home campus. 

Spring River hatchery fighting back against flood damage

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Jim Hinkle Spring River State Fish Hatchery in Mammoth Spring is recovering from widespread flooding that resulted from a storm on April 29 that dumped more than 8 inches of rain in the region.

Trout fishing seminar scheduled at Heber Springs visitor center

Anglers looking to take their trout-fishing game to the next level are invited to a special intermediate trout-fishing seminar, hosted by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, at the William Carl Garner Visitor Center in Heber Springs from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 29.
