Big Lake areas closed Feb. 8-12

MANILLA – Big Lake Wildlife Management Area and Big Lake National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to daytime public access Feb. 8-12. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations on the areas. The flights will be dependent on the weather.

USDA announces funding to control feral swine in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK — On November 21, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced it is awarding $3.4 million to fund projects to control feral swine in Arkansas.

Portions of WMAs may be closed next week

LITTLE ROCK – Weather permitting, portions of Trusten Holder, Seven Devils, Cut-off Creek, Freddie Black Choctaw Island and St. Francis Sunken Lands Wildlife Management Areas may be closed to daytime public access next week. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, in cooperation with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will be conducting aerial operations aimed at reducing feral hog populations on the WMAs.

Choctaw Island WMA emergency closure approved

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has approved the emergency closure of the Freddie Black Choctaw Island Wildlife Management Area Deer Research Area East Unit. The WMA will be closed March 2-3 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
