Ed Gordon Point Remove WMA Flying High into Waterfowl Season

BLACKWELL – Residents near Ed Gordon Point Remove Wildlife Management Area might have noticed all the airplanes flying around the last two days of September. Several crop dusters, contracted by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were flying nearly nonstop to deliver fertilizer and lime to 350 acres of the WMA’s moist-soil units.
WMA named after Arkansas conservationist Kirk Dupps

ROGERS - The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission honored one of its former commissioners by adding Kirk Dupps’ name to Northwest Arkansas’s Beaver Lake Wildlife Management Area adjoining Devil’s Eyebrow Natural Area. The unanimous vote to recognize Dupps with this honor was held in a special meeting Oct. 5. The official announcement was held at Tuesday’s special Night of Conservation event held in Garfield with Dupps and family present.
Renovation complete on Nimmo Access to Little Red River

SEARCY – The construction of a new boat ramp on the Little Red River near Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA was completed Sept. 20 and is now open for use in this popular fishing and hunting area in north-central Arkansas.
Glaise Creek restoration work closes road to Big Hurricane Lake

BALD KNOB – The road leading to Big Hurricane Lake in the Henry Gray Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area was closed Tuesday, Sept. 27, and will not reopen until completion of work on a new Glaise Creek water-control structure. The structure is essential to renovating bottomland hardwood forests within the WMA, which saw substantial die-offs beginning in 2018.

In case you haven’t been able to find a location through private fields, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission prepares a few locations on public land for hunters who want to enjoy a first shot at the season.
Apply for an opportunity to hunt doves with the AGFC on opening weekend

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has eleven opportunities throughout the state this year for hunters looking to hunt doves during the Labor Day Weekend opener. Four of these managed fields are on AGFC Wildlife Management Areas and seven are privately-owned fields the AGFC has leased from farmers to offer additional opportunities for the public to enjoy the kickoff to hunting season.Applications will be accepted Aug. 1-15 at www.agfc.com.
