Early specklebelly goose hunting presents a challenge in locating a place to hunt if you don’t have access to farms through friends or a hunting lease, but the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has a solution.

In this month's webinar, Jacob Martin, District 6 Fisheries Management Biologist, will present "Optimizing Sampling Protocols: Evaluating how Electrofishing Settings affect the Capture of Flathead Catfish in the Ouachita River" and Jessica Feltz, Conservation Social Scientist, in collaboration with Luke Naylor, Wildlife Management Division Chief, will present "WRICE: Partnerships and the Benefits to Participants".

Jackson, Naylor earn national acclaim

Two biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission received high praise from national waterfowl conservation organization Delta Waterfowl during a special Champions of Delta Luncheon Saturday at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock. Luke Naylor, AGFC chief of wildlife management, and Jason “Buck” Jackson, AGFC Wetlands Program coordinator, were honored with Delta Waterfowl’s Conservation Leader Award for spearheading the AGFC’s Waterfowl Rice Incentive Conservation Enhancement Program, a new effort to increase flooded rice on the landscape and offer increased hunting opportunities on managed lands.

Federal partnership expands opportunity for wetland habitat and hunter access program

LITTLE ROCK — A special landowner program offered through the Natural Resources Conservation Service may create even more wetland habitat in Arkansas this winter. It also has the potential to increase public hunting opportunities for ducks and geese and wildlife-viewing locations for a variety of migratory species.

Birders benefit from waterfowl habitat program

LITTLE ROCK — Duck hunters aren’t the only people who know and appreciate the soul-stirring sight of thousands of ducks, geese and other migratory birds descending on open fields in the Arkansas Delta. Each year, birders and other wildlife-watching enthusiasts flock to wetlands during winter to catch a glimpse of these birds as they make their annual trip between nesting grounds in the North and warmer breeding grounds below the frost belt. And thanks to the habitat offered by waterfowl-focused programs in Arkansas, these birdwatchers have more than 3,800-acres of private land to enjoy their passion through the end of winter.

Youths 15 and and under, active military and veterans have a duck hunt day in Arkansas all to themselves on Saturday, the first of two special hunt days for this season. Everyone else can be back in the duck woods on Dec. 11 for the second portion of the 60-day season.
