WMA Deer Bag Limit: Four deer, no more than two bucks, which may include:

  • Two bucks with archery, muzzleloader or modern gun,
  • Four does with archery,
  • Two does with muzzleloader and modern gun combined.
  • During youth hunt, youths may take four deer, two bucks (no antler restrictions) and two does.

Deer Notes:

  • Three-point rule.
  • No dogs.
2023-24 Quail

Nov. 1, 2023-Feb. 5, 2024. Daily limit - 6, possession limit -12.

While training bird dogs, you may use handguns or shotguns with blank ammunition. Pen-raised quail may be taken with a Shoot-To-Kill Bird Dog Field Training Permit. This permit is available from your local wildlife officer.

2023-24 Rabbit

Sept. 1, 2023-Feb. 29, 2024. Daily limit - 8, possession limit - 16. 

2023-24 Squirrel

May 15, 2023-Feb. 29, 2024. Dogs allowed. Daily limit - 12, possession limit - 48.

2024 Turkey

Youth Hunt: April 6-7, 2024. One legal turkey.
Firearms Hunt: April 15-May 5, 2024. One legal turkey.

Access

Access to both tracts is off Hwy.160, west of Bradley. Tract 1 is north of the Pleasant Valley community and Tract 2 is south of the Walnut Hill community. Refer to an area map for more specific directions.

The area was established as a WMA in 1992.

Camping

Nearest camping facilities are on the Lafayette County WMA, 3 miles east of Bradley.

Description

The area is divided into two separate tracts, tract 1 is primarily old fields, bordered by an oxbow lake of the Red River, and tract 2 is forested with a pine/hardwood mixture.

Hunting Opportunities

Deer, quail, turkey, squirrel waterfowl and rabbits. The old field habitat provides some excellent rabbit hunting opportunities.

Lafayette County, west of Bradley off Hwy. 160.

Management Practices

Management activities on this area are limited due to its remote location. However, a habitat management plan, which includes prescribed burning, is currently being developed.

Purpose

The primary objective of this management area is to provide quality wildlife habitat and public hunting opportunities.

Recreation Other Than Hunting

The oxbow lake on Tract #1 provides good fishing opportunities. The Red River is nearby, Lafayette County WMA is approximately 7 miles to the east, and Sulphur River WMA is approximately 7 miles to the west. Also, the states of Texas and Louisiana are very close to the west and south, respectively.

Restaurants and Other Facilities

Facilities are located in Bradley, AR and Springhill, LA. Bass Haven Restaurant and Lodge are located on Lake Erling. They have lodging as well as RV hookups and a boat launch. They can be reached at 870-694-6221.
