Guide  Jon Conklin, who reports for the Fishing Report from Beaver Lake, went fishing with another guide, Jeff Wilson, and caught this striper last week on the lake. He says the bite is strong early in the morning using bream and brood minnows, and some great topwater is going on, too, at Beaver Lake.

 

 

AGFC opens new earthquake-fueled paddling adventure in northeast Arkansas

TRUMANN — The latest water trail added to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s watchable wildlife destinations has been a long time in the making — about 208 years. St. Francis Sunken Lands Water Trail in Poinsett County takes advantage of the effects of the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-12 and offers canoe and kayak enthusiasts a rare view of the creatures that call these bottomland hardwoods home.

AGFC graduates new class of wildlife officers

MAYFLOWER – One dozen new wildlife officers will be hitting the fields and forests of The Natural State this summer, after graduating from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s training program. The graduation ceremony took place July 31 at the H.C. “Red” Morris Enforcement Training Center off Arkansas Highway 89.

Late summer means trouble bruins

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas’s bear population has made the news on more than one occasion in the last few weeks. Arkansas Game and Fish Biologists have had to relocate some black bears from a few towns in The Natural State recently, with one even taking a stroll on the University of Arkansas’s campus. The uptick in sightings is fairly common for this time of the year, but there are a few things people can do to help keep these wild animals in the woods and out of trouble.

AGFC shooting range offers special deals for National Shooting Sports Month

MAYFLOWER — With more than two months of shooting time under their belt since reopening the Dr. James E. Moore Jr. Camp Robinson Firing Range, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission staff are ready to celebrate National Shooting Sports Month. A variety of offers are available to any member of the general public during August.

Greenbrier, Beebe ponds join AGFC Family and Community Program roster

LITTLE ROCK – Two locations have been added to the lineup of ponds in the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Family and Community Fishing Program, bringing the total number of ponds statewide to 49. Also, a new Geographic Information System mapping tool has been added to the AGFC’s website that will make it easy to find all 49 statewide ponds.
