Giant salvinia creeps into Lake Columbia

MAGNOLIA — Fisheries biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission confirmed this week that giant salvinia, a harmful invasive plant, has been found in Lake Columbia in Columbia County.

Arkansas's waterfowl habitat has seen a huge upsurge in greater white-fronted geese (specklebellies) in recent years. Geese in general are prominent on the landscape now from the northern border of the state to the southeast corner, and in last week's AGFC aerial survey, geese outnumbered ducks on the Delta.

AGFC seeks public input on deer management plan revision

LITTLE ROCK — Biologists with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission are seeking public input on the current revision to Arkansas’s White-tailed Deer Strategic Management Plan. This is the first review and revision of the plan since 2013.

A mallard hen is caught in flight in the Stuttgart area. More mallards were seen in anecdotal reports from waterfowlers over the weekend after a cold weather front approach and passed through the state.
