Antlerless hunt offers a head start to deer season

LITTLE ROCK – With the heat finally breaking and a few Arkansans even spotted in sweatshirts, the itch to spend a quiet morning in the woods is in full effect. Hunters who can’t stand the wait until modern gun season opens have a great opportunity to get out and get some meat in the freezer during Arkansas’s private land antlerless deer hunt, Oct. 12-16.

ROGERS — Dozens of conservationists and anglers gathered at Dam Site Park Access below Beaver Dam last Thursday to learn more about how the AGFC is throwing stones to create better water quality and fish habitat on the Beaver Tailwater. 

Arkansas Wildlife Fishing Report

Pat Snyder of Maumelle caught this 22-inch brown trout recently, fishing below Wildcat Shoals on the Bull Shoals dam tailwater. Pat says he's been fishing the White River for 50 years and this marks his best catch. He was drift-fishing with a black/silver minnow crankbait out of the Rainbow Drive Resort, with generators running at the dam. Photo provided by Pat Snyder.

Women’s outdoor weekend heads to Northwest Arkansas

HUNTSVILLE — The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will host a special Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshop at the Ozark Natural Science Center in Huntsville Nov. 1-3. The weekend-long workshop has enough room for 60 women to attend and learn about wildlife, hiking, hunting and angling in The Natural State.
