AGFC celebrates rebirth of Spring River hatchery

MAMMOTH SPRING — Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Chairman Bobby Martin loaded the first batch of rainbow trout Wednesday at the “ribbon-cutting” of the newly remodeled Jim Hinkle Spring River State Fish Hatchery in northeast Arkansas.

Acres for Wildlife sees revamp for golden anniversary

LITTLE ROCK — Landowners in Arkansas wishing to improve their private land for wildlife can apply for up to $15,000 in cost-share incentives through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s newly revamped Acres for Wildlife program, offered through the agency’s Private Lands Habitat Division from now until July 1.

Former Commissioner Bill Bridgforth dies at 82

LITTLE ROCK — William C. “Bill” Bridgforth, 82, of Pine Bluff, a former Arkansas Game and Fish Commissioner, died Thursday, May 11, at his home.

Roger Fisher lived up to his surname, landing his personnel best largemouth bass on a creek off Norfork Lake last weekend while kayak fishing. The fish was 19.5 inches long and 5 pounds, caught in about 2 feet of water on a white Rooster Tail. Roger and his nephew, Andy Bell, found largemouths feeing on bait balls in the creek and landed a bunch; Roger also caught two at one time on a square bill.
