Leftover WMA Deer Hunt Permits available online July 23

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will sell all leftover permits to participate in special deer permit hunts on Arkansas wildlife management areas beginning at 8 a.m., July 23.

Senate bill proposes $1.3 billion added to wildlife conservation efforts

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senators James Risch (R-Idaho) and Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) along with their colleagues Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-North Dakota) introduced groundbreaking legislation in the United States Senate today to provide a critical source of funding for conservation across the country. The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (S. 3223) will redirect $1.3 billion annually from energy development on federal lands and waters to the existing Wildlife Conservation Restoration Program.

Spring River danger resolved

HARDY – A sinkhole that opened in the Spring River last month has been closed, Commissioner of State Lands John Thurston announced Thursday, July 12. The Commissioner of State Lands office, alongside the Attorney General’s office, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Arkansas Geological Survey, the Arkansas Department of Transportation, Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism, Fulton County Sheriff Albert Roork and Fulton County Judge Darrell Zimmer, as well as local landowners and volunteers, completed work Thursday repairing the sinkhole, located south of Mammoth Spring.

HEBER SPRINGS - Members of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission joined local trout guides, educators and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service last week to teach 35 4th- through 6th-grade students about fishing and conservation of our aquatic resources at the 3rd annual Little Red River Fish Camp at JFK Park in Heber Springs.

Jimmy Crowl, an Oklahoma rancher who has been fishing the White River for 25-plus years, caught this brown trout at the Rainbow Bridge at Cotter, his first catch of a brown at the bridge site.
